OTTAWA – Wrestling Canada Lutte announced the nomination of three athletes for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games set for August 14-26, 2010 in Singapore.
The Canadian team members being nominated to the Youth Olympic Games team include Dorothy Yeats in the 70 kg weight class from Montreal in the women’s competition. Dalton Webb in the 76 kg weight class from Toronto and Parmvir Dhesi in the 100 kg weight class from Surrey have been nominated to compete in the men’s freestyle competition. Guivi Sissaouri, International Development Coach for Wrestling Canada Lutte, has been nominated to the team as head coach.
The women’s competition is scheduled for August 16th and will be followed by the Men’s Freestyle competition on August 17th.
The Youth Olympic Games are a sporting event for young people, balancing sport, culture and education, working as a catalyst in these fields throughout the Olympic Movement. Young athletes (aged 14 to 18) will participate in high-level competitions and alongside the sports element of the event, will participate in a Culture and Education Programme (CEP) focused on five themes: Olympism and Olympic values, skills development, well-being and healthy lifestyle, social responsibility and expression through digital media.
The sports programme of the first edition of the summer YOG will encompass all 26 sports on the programme of the 2012 Olympic Games, with a smaller number of disciplines and events and will bring together approximately 3,600 athletes and 1450 officials in 2010.
