Wrestling Canada Lutte Mourns Todd Hinds

The Wrestling Canada Lutte community is saddened by the recent passing of Todd Hinds, a good Friend and leader within the Canadian Wrestling Community. Todd will certainly be remembered fondly and missed by the wrestling community who were enriched by his career.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the recent passing of our good friend to wrestling in the Country, Todd Hinds,” said Don Ryan, President. “Our deepest sympathies and condolences to family, friends and colleagues. Todd will certainly be remembered for his passion and work-ethic and will never be forgotten.”

Todd was an accomplished Canadian wrestling athlete and coach. As an athlete, Todd was a three-time OFSAA Champion and Canada West’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1989. He was also a two-time CIS Champion and five-time CIS All-Canadian.

Prior to joining the University of Saskatchewan Huskies as head coach in 1996, Hinds was an assistant coach at both Lakehead University and his alma mater, the University of Manitoba. Hinds received the Canada West Coach-of-the-Year honour four times in his career at the University of Saskatchewan; his earliest in his second year of coaching in 1997 as well as in 1998, 2004 and 2007 during the Canada West Championships in Saskatoon. He was also named CIS Coach of the Year in 2007.

Hinds was actively involved in the wrestling community as a member and Head Coach of the Saskatoon Wrestling Club, Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association and Wrestling Canada Lutte.

With Wrestling Canada Lutte, Hinds was involved in various coaching capacities with the women’s national team program for over a decade, including being the assistant coach for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

In 2013 Hinds took a medical leave from the Huskies, and succumbed to health complications this past Saturday morning.

A funeral will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
