(Ottawa, ON) – Canada’s top wrestlers are converging to the Ian Beddis Gym at Brock University for the 2017 Junior / Senior Canadian Wrestling Championships from March 24-26 in St. Catharines, Ontario.

This is the first Canadian Championship of the new Tokyo quadrennial and will serve as the primary event for ranking athletes for junior and senior national team selections. These national team athletes will represent Canada at various events throughout the season, including the Junior and Senior World Championships and Francophonie Games. “The spotlight will shine on Canada’s most talented wrestlers as they vie for Canadian Championship titles,” commented Don Ryan, President.

“The Championships following an Olympic Games are highly anticipated, especially with new up and coming athletes looking to dethrone veteran Champions,” said Tamara Medwidsky, Executive Director. Leigh Vierling, High Performance Director noted that “the technical staff will be busy assessing athlete performances throughout the weekend. We are excited to see the athletes perform on Canada’s biggest stage as we start the new quadrennial.”

Final entries will be confirmed after the March 17^th final registration deadline.

The Championships are being hosted by Brock University and the Brock Wrestling Club, in collaboration with the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. The event starts on Friday, March 24^th with Junior Men’s Freestyle and Women’s competition, followed by Senior Men’s Freestyle and Women’s competition on Saturday, March 25^th. Saturday will also see the induction of Marty Calder and William Hogarth into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame. Competition will conclude with Junior and Senior Men’s Greco-Roman competition on Sunday, March 26^th.
