Notice – Arbitration Decision Men’s non-Olympic Team Selection Trials

May 01, 2014

Please be advised that Wrestling Canada participated in an arbitration hearing earlier today, related to the selection procedures of the 2014 Men’s non-Olympic Team Selection Trials.

The arbitration hearing process resulted in the revisions related to the Men’s non-Olympic Team Selection Trials previously published on April 16th, 2014 being set aside. As such, the criteria for Men’s non-Olympic Team Selection Trials will revert back to the following:

Athletes who wish to be eligible for team selection at the two (2) FILA non-Olympic weight classes (61 kg, 70 kg) will need to participate in the Team Selection Trials, which will be held in conjunction with TOPS in Calgary, AB (May 2-3, 2014)

Athletes who wish to enter a non-Olympic weight class at the Team Selection Trials must have:

  • Wrestled in the 2014 Senior Canadian Championships and ranked in the top 6;
  • OR
  • Ranked in the top 3 at the 2013 Senior Canadian Championships as well as wrestled in the 2014 Senior Canadian Championships.

The Team Selection Trials for the two (2) new FILA non-Olympic weight classes will be run using a single elimination draw.

The Team Selection Trials for the two (2) new FILA non-Olympic weight classes will be held at scratch weight (no weight allowance).

Wrestle-offs for alternate team spots as well as for the true #2 ranking will take place 1 hour following the completion of the Team Selection Trials.

NOTE: Winners of the two (2) FILA non-Olympic weight classes do not automatically qualify for team nomination. Team nomination and funding allocation will be performance based and at the discretion of the Men’s National Coach, who will nominate athletes to the High Performance Committee for ratification.
