Six Canadians to wrestle in International Tournament and Training Camp in Cuba

February 06, 2018

HAVANA, CUBA – A team of six men have traveled to Cuba for the Granma Y Cerro Pelado International Tournament and Training Camp to represent Canada.

Jevon Balfour, of Brock Wrestling Club, brings a wealth of experience to the team. The 23-year-old has competed at four World Championships and a Commonwealth Games. Balfour finished 13th at his latest international tournament, the U23 World Championships in Poland. He won his 74 kg weight class at Commonwealth Games Trials in November.

Balfour’s teammates at the U23 World Championships, Darthe Capellan (Burnaby Mountain WC) and Dillon Williams (Team Impact WC), will also be competing and training in Cuba.

“This is a great opportunity for the men to gain international experience,” said Tamara Medwidsky, WCL Executive Director. “They will have the opportunity train and compete against a number of high-caliber wrestlers.”

The training camp will take place from February 7 to 14, and the tournament will be held from February 16 to 22.
