Women’s Freestyle Cadet & Juvenile Champions and Men’s Freestyle Cadet Trials Winners Crowned on Day 2

(Calgary, AB) – 2016 Cadet and Juvenile Women’s Freestyle Champions have been crowned at the Asics Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships, at the University of Calgary at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium. Also on the line were Men’s Cadet Team titles, with athletes fighting hard to earn the opportunity to represent Canada internationally as national team members.

Wrestling will continue on Sunday with Women’s Freestyle Cadet Team Trials, which is the selection event for the Cadet National Teams, as well as Men’s Greco-Roman Cadet Team Trials, Juvenile Men’s Greco-Roman and Women’s Greco-Roman events.

In addition to medal presentations for all women’s weight-classes, Wrestling Canada Lutte also presented the cadet awards for 2015. Based on the previous season’s international results, the Cadet Female Athlete of the Year was presented to Alexia Seal of the Coast Wrestling Club. Seal won a bronze medal at the 2015 Cadet Pan Am Championships, a silver medal at the Rusu, Popovici, Berceanu, Iorga International, a gold medal at the Jovenes Promesas International and 11th place at 2015 Cadet World Championships.

Based on ballots submitted during the competition, the Outstanding Cadet Women’s Award was presented to: Makayla Levy of Windsor Mat Kings Wrestling Club and the Outstanding Juvenile Women’s Award was presented to Hannah Taylor of Wolfpack Wrestling Club.

  • Club Team Award Cadet Women’s Freestyle: Junior Huskies Wrestling Club
  • Club Team Award Juvenile Women’s Freeestyle: Team Impact Wrestling Club
  • Provincial Team Award Cadet Women’s Freestyle: Team British Columbia
  • Provincial Team Award Juvenile Women’s Freestyle: Team British Columbia

Wrestling Canada Lutte thanks the University of Calgary, the Dinos Wrestling Club and the organizing committee for hosting the Championships.

The 2016 ASICS Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships are taking place at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium at the University of Calgary, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. Cadet and Juvenile competition includes Men’s and Women’s Freestyle as well as Men’s and Women’s Greco-roman wrestling.
