British Columbia and Ontario claim team championships at Canada Games
ST. JOHN’S – The team component of wrestling at the 2025 Canada Games wrapped up on Aug. 22 with British Columbia and Ontario taking the gold medals. B.C. came out on top on the women’s side, while Ontario were the winners for the men.
Women’s Results
Spots in the finals were still on the line during the morning sessions for the women. Pool A saw the B.C. defeat Saskatchewan to win the pool, while Ontario topped Alberta to claim Pool B.
Gold medal
Both Ontario and B.C. had been dominant on route to the gold medal match. They both entered with undefeated records, Ontario 6-0 and B.C. 5-0, but only one could remain perfect and claim the gold. The gold-medal match went right down to the wire as the teams were tied at five wins apiece after 10 matches. The final match went to B.C. and they took the gold.
Bronze Medal
After both Alberta and Saskatchewan lost in the morning, they needed to regroup when they faced each other in the bronze-medal match. After an even start, Alberta pulled away in the final matches and took the medal, winning seven matches to Saskatchewan’s four.

Gold Medal
Much like the women’s side, the gold-medal match was a showdown between unbeaten Ontario (5-0) and B.C (6-0). However, unlike the women’s final, the men’s was all Ontario. They won nine matches to two for British Columbia to claim the gold.
Bronze Medal
The bronze-medal match saw Quebec taking on Alberta. Both teams came into the match with just one loss in the competition and wanted to end on a high note. This one was a good battle but, in the end, Quebec won seven out of the 11 matches to win the bronze.
