Cadet and Juvenile Men’s Freestyle Champions Crowned in Calgary on Day 1
(Calgary, AB) – After the first day of full competition at the 2016 ASICS Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships, Men’s Freestyle Cadet & Juvenile champions were crowned and awards presented to outstanding cadet and juvenile athletes, clubs and teams for 2016.
“Wrestling Canada Lutte thanks the 2016 ASICS Canadian Championships Organizing Committee, University of Calgary and the Dinos Wrestling Club for being exceptional hosts so far,” says Tamara Medwidsky, Executive Director Wrestling Canada Lutte.
Wrestling will continue on Saturday with Men’s Freestyle Cadet Team Trials, which is the selection event for the Cadet National Teams, as well as Women’s Freestyle Cadet and Juvenile events.
As part of the awards presentations, Wrestling Canada Lutte presented the cadet awards for 2016. Based on the previous season’s international results, the Cadet Male Athlete of the Year was presented to Connor McNeice from the Cochrane Cowboys WC. McNeice won a bronze medal at the Jovenes Promesas International, placed 5th at the Rusu, Popovici, Berceanu, Iorga International, and topped his season with a 5th place at the 2015 Cadet World Championships.
Based on ballots submitted during the competition, the Outstanding Cadet Men’s Award was presented to: Kyle Jordan from Team Impact Wrestling Club & Outstanding Juvenile Men’s Award was presented to Connor McNeice of the Cochrane Cowboys Wrestling Club.

- Club Team Award Cadet Men’s Freestyle: Team Impact Wrestling Club (ON)
- Club Team Award Juvenile Men’s Freestyle: Matmen Wrestling Club (ON)
- Provincial Team Award Cadet Men’s Freestyle: Team Ontario
- Provincial Team Award Juvenile Men’s Freestyle: Team British Columbia

The 2016 ASICS Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships are taking place at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium at the University of Calgary, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. Cadet and Juvenile competition includes Men’s and Women’s Freestyle as well as Men’s and Women’s Greco-roman wrestling.
