Cadet & Juvenile Men’s Freestyle Champions Crowned in Windsor
(Windsor, ON) – After the first day of full competition at the 2017 Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships, Men’s Freestyle Cadet & Juvenile champions were crowned and awards presented to outstanding cadet and juvenile athletes, clubs and teams for 2016.
“Wrestling Canada Lutte thanks the 2017 Canadian Championships Organizing Committee, University of Windsor and the Essex Wrestling Club for being exceptional hosts so far,” says Tamara Medwidsky, Executive Director Wrestling Canada Lutte.
Action resumes on Saturday with Men’s Freestyle Cadet Team Trials, as well as Women’s Freestyle Cadet and Juvenile events.
As part of the awards presentations, Wrestling Canada Lutte presented the cadet awards for 2016. Based on the previous season’s international results, the Cadet Male Athlete of the Year was presented to Lachlan McNeil from Team Impact Wrestling Club and Daniel Coles from the Coast Wrestling Club. Both Lachlan and Daniel won gold medals at the 2016 Cadet Pan American Championships and placed 9th at the 2016 Cadet World Championships.
Based on ballots submitted during the competition, the Outstanding Cadet Men’s Award was presented to: Nicolae Gandrabura from the Montreal YMHA Wrestling Club and the Outstanding Juvenile Men’s Award was presented to Hunter Lee of the Junior Huskies Wrestling Club.

- Club Team Award Juvenile Men’s Freestyle: Akhara of Champions Wrestling Club (ON)
- Provincial Team Award Cadet Men’s Freestyle: Team Ontario
- Provincial Team Award Juvenile Men’s Freestyle: Team Ontario

The 2017 Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships are taking place at the St. Denis Centre at the University of Windsor, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. Cadet and Juvenile competition includes Men’s and Women’s Freestyle as well as Men’s and Women’s Greco-Roman wrestling.
