Canada narrowly misses podium at Senior World Championships

October 31, 2024

TIRANA, ALBANIA – Just a week after a double silver performance at the 2024 U23 World Championships, Canada almost celebrated another World Championship medal this week at the 2024 Senior World Championships – Non-Olympic Weight Categories, in Tirana, Albania. Montreal’s Laurence Beauregard found herself in a bronze medal match after working her way back through the repechage. Unfortunately, it was not to be as she lost the match and had to settle for a fifth-place finish.

Beauregard, who trains at the Montreal National Training Centre, began the women’s 59kg event with a narrow 8-8 loss on criteria to Mongolia’s Tserenchimed Sukhee. After Sukhee advanced to the final, Beauregard was brought back into the repechage. In the bronze, she matched up against  Mansi Mansi of India but dropped the match 5-0.
