July 07, 2025

MADRID — Canada sent a large contingent of 26 athletes, to the 2025 Grand Prix of Spain. This highly regarded international tournament brings out strong competition from all over the wrestling world and was a great chance for members of Canada’s national team program to test themselves against top-tier competition.

Canada had a strong showing at the event taking home 12 medals (two gold, five silver, and five bronze). In addition, the women’s team earned second place overall.

Gold medals were won by Montreal’s Laurence Beauregard at 57kg and Maple Ridge, British Columbia’s Madisyn Grof at 55kg. The gold was the second already this year for Beauregard, who also won at the Pan-American Championships in May. As for Grof, she had a stellar day and was Canada’s only undefeated wrestler during the competition.

“I feel great, I feel like every tournament is a stepping stone towards the World Championships and I am excited to continue wrestling,” said Grof after her win.

Silver medals went to Stoney Creek, Ontario’s Serena Di Benedetto at 53kg; Calgary’s Gabriela Cross at 57kg; London, Ontario’s Jonelle Clarke at 65kg; Brights Grove, Ontario’s Brianna Fraser at 76kg; and, on the men’s side, Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Jorawar Dhinsa at 125kg.
