Canadian men add eight medals to total count at U20 Pan-Am Championships
LIMA, PERU – After the Canadian women’s strong performance on July 11 at the 2025 U20 Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships, in Lima, Peru, it was the men’s freestyle team’s chance to hit the mats on July 12. When they did, they did not disappoint, earning eight medals (one gold, three silver, four bronze) and finishing second overall in the team competition.
The men were led by Brunswick, Ohio’s Kade Brown. Brown, a dual citizen who recently declared for Canada and now trains out of Coast RTC, captured gold at 70kg. Brown was in a traditional bracket and opened with an 11-0 win over Josuel Medina of Puerto Rico. In the semifinal, he scored a win by criteria, 2-2, over American Jaxon Joy. That set up a final against Mexico’s Jazziel Balam. Brown had no trouble in the final, wining 11-0 to secure the gold.
“Overall, I think I wrestled hard today. My coaches and I came in knowing that I was going to have to scrap and would have some tough matches. I think I wrestled smart, stayed tough, was ready to scrap and got out there and made it a war.”
Canada’s three silver medals went to: Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Michaeljeet Grewal at 92kg, Abbotsford’s Tejvir Dhinsa at 97kg, and Caledon, Ontario’s Chanjot Kang at 125kg.
Bronze medals were won by: Brunswick’s Karson Brown at 61kg, Edmonton’s Khalin Radev at 65kg, Cochrane, Alberta’s Nick Hooper at 74kg and Surrey, British Columbia’s Rohit Bal at 86kg.
Javier Tonita-Charriez and Bryce Rooney each finished ninth at 57kg and 79kg respectively.
