Canadian Wrestlers win Amazing Race Canada
EDMONTON— Canadian wrestlers Taylor McPherson and Katie Mulkay were crowned champions of season 10 of the Amazing Race Canada. The show’s finale aired September 10, which saw McPherson and Mulkay finish the final leg of the competition ahead of the other three remaining teams. The race concluded in Edmonton, at Commonwealth Stadium. For winning the race the pair will each get a vehicle, a trip around the world and $250,000 dollars in cash.
The best friends are both from Alberta (McPherson originally from Calgary and Mulkay from Edmonton) and are members of the Edmonton Wrestling Club. They have represented Canada in wrestling at events such as: World Championships, Pan-American Championships, Francophone Games.
After the airing of the finale, Mulkay and McPherson spoke to WCL about the experience and how their background in wrestling helped them along the journey.
“Winning The Amazing Race Canada was an exhilarating and unforgettable experience. The entire journey was intense, requiring not just physical but also mental strength,” said Mulkay. “The competition tested our limits in ways we hadn’t anticipated, and having a background in wrestling played a crucial role in our success. Physically, wrestling had already conditioned us to endure long, grueling challenges and to push through exhaustion. But beyond that, wrestling taught us invaluable lessons in strategy, discipline, and teamwork.”
McPherson also spoke about how the mental side of the sport helped them during the race’s challenges. “Mentally, wrestling instilled in us the importance of staying focused and adaptable under pressure. The strategic thinking required in wrestling, such as analyzing opponents, making quick decisions, and remaining resilient, was directly applicable to navigating unpredictable challenges. As the season progressed, our wrestling experience helped us stay composed and handle stress, giving us an edge over the competition.”
Mulkay attributed many of the skills the pair picked up in wrestling as a key part of their win. “The victory was a testament to how wrestling will forever be a part of our lives and has shaped us into the women we are today. It reinforced that the resilience and skills we developed on the mat were essential to our success on the show.”
While Mulkay and McPherson are now Amazing Race winners, they clearly have not forgotten the sport that helped to shape them. “We are incredibly grateful to have been recognized as the wrestlers on The Amazing Race Canada. It was a privilege to represent our sport and to show Canadians that Strong is Beautiful!” added McPherson.
