Finals set for Canadian Wrestling Trials
NIAGARA, Ont. – The stage is set for another high-powered matchup between Erica Wiebe and Justina Di Stasio.
The 2016 Olympic Champion will wrestle the 2018 World Champion in a best two-of-three finals on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Center in Niagara.
The winner will qualify for a spot on the Canadian team at the Pan-Am Olympic Qualification Tournament in March.
The men’s and women’s freestyle finals are set and will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
The men’s heavyweight matchup will feature Rio 2016 Olympian Korey Jarvis against Amar Dhesi. Jarvis hasn’t lost a match to a Canadian in six years, but he’ll be challenged by Dhesi, a 2018 NCAA Division 1 bronze medallist.
At 53 kg, Samantha Stewart and Jade Parsons both pinned 2018 World bronze medallist Diana Weicker to reach the finals.
Hannah Taylor defeated Alexandria Town in an electrifying 57 kg semifinals. She will wrestle 2019 World Champion Linda Morais on Saturday night.
Jordie Steen advanced to the 97 kg finals after winning four matches each by 10-0 technical superiority. Nishan Randhawa will try to slow Steen down in the finals.
Michelle Fazzari qualified for the 62 kg finals. The 2016 Olympian was injured at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and will be looking to return to the Olympic stage. She’ll need to get through Brock teammate Jessica Brouillette to get her chance.

The Canadian Wrestling Trials resume on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET with the repechage and bronze medal matches. The finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. The event will be streamed live here. Results from Thursday and Friday are available here.
