October 29, 2025

OTTAWA — Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) is proud to announce that Montreal’s Laurence Beauregard has been awarded $2,000 in Quest for Gold funding following her outstanding performance at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, held September 13–21 in Zagreb, Croatia.

Competing in the 59kg weight class, Beauregard, from Montreal Wrestling Club, captured a bronze medal — the first World Championship medal of her career. This achievement adds to an already impressive international resume that includes four Pan-American Championship gold medals.

The Quest for Gold Fund Program was established in 1992 to recognize podium performances by Canadian wrestlers at the Olympic Games and Senior World Championships. The program annually awards up to $20,000 — $10,000 for senior men and $10,000 for senior women — distributed as follows:

  • Gold medallist:up to $5,000
  • Silver medallist:up to $3,000
  • Bronze medallist:up to $2,000

“Laurence’s performance in Zagreb reflects her dedication and steady progression on the international stage,” said Tamara Medwidsky, CEO of Wrestling Canada Lutte. “We’re incredibly proud of her accomplishment and thrilled to recognize it through the Quest for Gold program. Funding like this plays an important role in encouraging the continued development of our athletes and rewarding them for their excellence on the world stage.”

Beauregard’s bronze marks another highlight for Canadian wrestling on the world stage and serves as motivation for the next generation of athletes pursuing international success.
