Montreal set to host top wrestlers at Junior / Senior Canadian Championships
MONTREAL – Canadian championship titles are up for grabs as Canada’s top wrestlers compete at the 2018 Junior / Senior Canadian Wrestling Championships March 16-18.
The Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard will host the three-day event, which will feature men’s and women’s freestyle and men’s Greco-Roman wrestling.
The Championships are used to select national team athletes who will represent Canada at various events throughout the season, including the Junior World Championships and Pan Am Championships, and the men’s Senior World Championships and Pan Am Championships.
Because of a scheduling conflict with the Women’s World Cup in Japan, a separate selection event will be held to select women’s senior teams.
“This event will be a showcase of Canadian wrestling talent,” said Wrestling Canada Lutte Executive Director Tamara Medwidsky. “Despite the World Cup team not being in attendance, there will be a great deal of talent on the mats.”
The list of confirmed participants, for all age and weight categories, is available here. Please note that draws will be finalized after weigh-ins and seeding is completed:
The Championships are being hosted by Club de Lutte Inter-Concordia, in collaboration with the Federation de lutte olympique de Quebec, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte.
The event starts on Friday, March 16 with Junior Men’s Freestyle and Women’s competition, followed by Senior Men’s Freestyle and Women’s competition on Saturday, March 17. Saturday will also see the induction of Lee MacKay into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame. Competition will conclude with Junior and Senior Men’s Greco-Roman competition on Sunday, March 18.
“We would like to thank Club de Lutte Inter-Concordia and the Championship Organizing Committee for their collaboration in hosting this important event,” noted Medwidsky.
