Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) strongly condemns the unjust actions of the Russian government and its military and stands in support with the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Our thoughts, at this time, are with the people of Ukraine and Ukrainians around the globe, including Ukrainian Canadians. While this conflict goes beyond the borders of sport, we also stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian Wrestling Association.

WCL is in full agreement and support of United World Wrestling’s (UWW) decision to “not invite or allow the participation of Russian or Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions. As well as the cancellation of all international competitions planned in Russia and Belarus.”

WCL will remain in contact with UWW and Sport Canada to determine any future interactions with the Russian and Belarussian wrestling associations.

We hope for a safe and speedy resolution to this conflict and pray for the safety of all affected by it.
