Strong Women’s Team Prepare to Compete in Vegas
(Las Vegas, USA) – On Wednesday, members of the strong Canadian women’s freestyle wrestling team take to the mat in Vegas. The event represents the first qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Women’s Freestyle competitors for Wednesday will include recent 2014 Commonwealth Games Champion and 2015 Pan Am Games Champion at 69KG Dorothy Yeats of the Tristar Wrestling Academy, Pan Am Games Champion at 48KG Genevieve Morrison (Dinos WC), and Team Impact’s Brianne Barry 53KG.
Heading into the World Championships, Morrison is currently ranked seventh in the world at 48KG and Yeats is ranked fifth in the world for 69KG.
Dorothy Yeats of Montreal recently spoke of looking forward to the world-stage.
“Competing is fun for me because it’s an opportunity for me to show my competitors and the world what I’ve been training so hard for.” said Yeats. “I like to use competitions as my time to shine. The feeling of winning makes all the long days of hard training completely worth it.”
For Day 2 at the 2015 Vegas World Wrestling Championships Canada’s Dylan Williams represented Canada in the 59KG Greco-Roman competition. With over 44 competitors within the 59KG Greco-Roman weight-class only and four weight-classes for the day, the crowd at the Orleans Arena were electric looking for world-class competition.
In the round of 16, Williams met Mate Krasznai of Hungary. In red, Dylan ended the half 6 points down to the Hungarian and then lost the bout 0-8 in the end.
