WCL U SPORTS Invitational Championships set for this weekend

ST. CATHARINES, ON – The 2025 WCL U SPORTS Invitation Championships are set for this weekend (Feb. 28- March 1) at Canada Games Park in St. Catharines, Ontario. The event, hosted by Brock University, will feature approximately 200 of the best collegiate wrestlers from across the country, representing 17 universities.
“WCL is eagerly anticipating the start of 2025 WCL U SPORTS Invitational Championships this week at the wonderful Canada Games Park,” said Tamara Medwidsky, WCL CEO. “We are excited to be working with a great partner in Brock University, who have hosted numerous events over the years. We are confident that these championships will be a great success for the athletes, universities and the sport of wrestling.”
The format for the event will see 10 weight classes for women’s wrestling and 10 weight classes for men’s freestyle. Each weight class will be divided into two pools, with a maximum of five competitors in a pool, 10 total per weight class. All competitors within a pool will face each other in a round robin. The top seed from pool 1 will cross over to face the top from poll 2, for the gold medal, second versus second for bronze and so on down the standings. The tournament will take place over two days with round robin matches happening on Feb. 28 and medal matches taking place on March 1. Universities will accumulate points from their athlete finishes and the top scoring teams will take home the team championships.
After the competition, there will also be a banquet where season awards such as: All-Canadians, Rookie of the Year and Athlete of the Year will be presented.
Spectators are invited to attend the competition and can purchase tickets at the door or in advance at: https://brocku.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=2360
