Weekend Wrap-up – Guelph Open, Jarvis in India
Guelph Open
The first carding tournament of 2019, the Guelph Open, took place on Sunday.
Gracelynn Doogan of the Guelph Wrestling Club took gold at 76 kg at her home gym. Senior World Championship teammates Jessie MacDonald, Jade Parsons, and Linda Morais were dominant in their brackets. At 50 kg, Jessie MacDonald cruised through her three matches winning each by 10-0 technical superiority. Linda Morais of Montreal YMHA was also dominant, winning with three falls at 62 kg. Jade Parsons didn’t have a point scored against her in three matches to take gold at 53 kg.
Other women’s event winners were Amy Bellavia, 57 kg, Hannah Taylor, 59 kg, Olivia Di Bacco, 68 kg, and Darrion Sterling, 72 kg.
On the men’s side, 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Steven Takahashi returned from injury to take gold at 57 kg. At 65 kg Vincent De Marinis defeated Connor McNeice and Josh Bodnarchuk to secured gold. Brad Hildebrandt beat Aly Barghout to claim the 125 kg title. Alex Moore defeated Dom Abounador of the New York Athletic Club in the 86 kg final.
Other men’s event winners were Scott Schiller, 61 kg, Dillon Williams, 70 kg, Jevon Balfour, 74 kg, Mohammed McBryde, 79 kg, and Keven Beazley, 97 kg.

Indian Pro Wrestling League
Korey Jarvis of Elliot Lake, Ont., won his first match at the Indian Pro Wrestling League. Jarvis, representing the Punjab Royals won the 125 kg bout against India’s Satinder Malik 7-2, despite trailing after the first round.

Jarvis’ Punjab Royals lost the duel with Mumbai Maharathi 46-51. They will face-off against MP Yodha on Wednesday January 23.
