RIO DE JANEIRO – Canada wrapped up its participation at the 2026 U20 Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships July 10 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After the men’s freestyle team earned seven medals during the first day, it was the women’s turn to bring home hardware for Canada.

The team ended the day with five medals (one silver and four bronze) in a highly competitive women’s wrestling division. Leading the way for Canada was Williams Lake, British Columbia’s Kai Pare, who earned a silver medal at 59kg. Pare was in a traditional bracket and won her quarterfinal against Peru and semifinal against Brazil before coming just short, losing to Puerto Rico in the gold medal final.

The bronze medals were won by Edmonton’s Victoria Stefanov at 50kg; Saskatoon’s Elizabeth Chapman at 55kg; Kitchener, Ontario’s Myla Blackshaw at 55kg and Calgary’s Mackenzie Cayer at 68kg.

Stefanov was in a round robin where she went 3-0. She advanced to the semifinal but was defeated by Guatemala. She rebounded and won the bronze medal match over Puerto Rico.

Chapman was in a traditional bracket and won her quarterfinal match. After falling in the semifinal, she captured the bronze medal with a win over Colombia.

Blackshaw went 2-1 in her round robin before a loss in the semifinal. She came back and defeated Colombia to win the bronze medal.

Finally, Cayer finished her round robin with an even 2-2 record to take the bronze medal.

Rounding out the Canadian results were: Fanny Bay, British Columbia’s Jonia Healey fourth at 72kg, Thunder Bay, Ontario’s Mylie Baccari fifth at 53kg, Calgary’s Clara Smithanik fifth at 76kg, and Hamilton’s Taylor Engelen sixth at 62kg.

Overall, Canada’s women’s team finished third in the team standings.
