Canada opens Senior Pan-American Championships with three medals

May 09, 2026

CORALVILLE, IA – The Senior Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships got underway for Canadian athletes on May 8, from Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, with the first six Women’s Wrestling weight classes. At the end of the day’s action, Canada had captured a trio of medals (one silver, and two bronzes).

The silver came from Calgary’s Ellise Daynes. Daynes, from Dinos WC, competed at 72kg in a round robin. She opened the event with a win by fall over Mexico’s Michelle Olea. That win set up a true final with American Precious Bell. However, it was not to be for Daynes. She lost in the final to Bell and had to settle for silver.

One of Canada’s bronze medals went to Komoka, Ontario’s Madi Parks. Parks, London-Western WC, won her quarterfinal match over Mercedes Castillo 6-0, but dropped her semifinal to Ecuador’s Jacqueline Mollocana. That put her in the bronze match against Nathaly Herrera of Peru. The match was all Parks who came away with an 8-0 win to earn the bronze. For Parks, it is her third career medal at the Senior Pan-Ams.

Canada’s final medal on the day went to Regina’s Amber Wiebe. Wiebe, from Cattown WC, finished third in her round robin at 55kg.

The rest of Canada’s results were: Calgary’s Annika Fines fifth at 62kg; Swift Current, Saskatchewan’s Aleah Nickel fifth at 68kg; and Surrey, British Columbia’s Karla Godinez 10th at 57kg.

The Senior Pan-Ams continue tomorrow with the remaining Women’s Wrestling weight classes (53kg, 59kg, 65kg and 76kg), along with first three Men’s Freestyle weight classes (61kg, 74kg and 86kg).
