August 25, 2017

(Paris, France) – Korey Jarvis was the top Canadian performer on Day 5 of the Senior World Championships, placing 7th.

Jarvis, wrestling at 125 kg, started with two straight wins, 12-3 against Abdelmottaleb of Egypt, followed by a 13-5 win over Baro of Albania. In the quarter-finals, he succumbed 0-10 to eventual champion, Petriashvili of Georgia. Jarvis missed advancing to the bronze medal match after a 0-5 loss to Russian Khizriev in the repechage.

At 57 kg, Aso Palani, faced the eventual winner Takahashi of Japan, losing 4-14. In the repechage, a 0-10 loss to Tomar of India meant elimination from the event.

Steven Takahashi and Jordan Steen had tough days, and were eliminated early with losses to Romania and Georgia in the 61 kg and 86 kg categories, respectively.

Tomorrow marks the final day of competition in men’s freestyle, starting at 10 am local time, with 3-time Olympian Haislan Garcia (65 kg), Michael Asselstine (70 kg), and Jevon Balfour (74 kg) on the mats.
