Juniors battle on second day of 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships

MONTREAL— Action continued at the 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships on May 29^th from Centre Pierre Charbonneau in Montreal as the Junior (U20) age group took to the mats. Once again, national titles and spots on the Canadian U20 team were on the line for the 181 wrestlers, competing in 20 weight classes, 10 for the men and 10 for the women.

Junior Women

Alberta led the way on the women’s side capturing four gold medals, one better than both Ontario and British Columbia. Alberta golds were won by: Victoria Stefanov, Edmonton WC at 50kg; Paige Veloso, Alberta Elite Women’s WC at 65kg; Mackenzie Cayer, Dinos WC at 68kg; and Clara Smithanik, Dinos WC at 76kg.

The Team Award went to Coast RTC who finished with 32 points, two better than Dinos at 30.

Taylor Engelen, from Jr. Marauders was named the women’s Most Outstanding Wrestler after capturing gold at 62kg.

Junior Men

British Columbia was dominant on the men’s side capturing six of a possible 10 gold medals. Their gold medalists included: Karson Brown, Coast RTC at 65kg; Liam Gorton, Coast RTC at 70kg; Tejvir Dhinsa, Burnaby Mountain WC at 86kg; Michealjeet Grewal, Burnaby Mountain WC at 92kg; Harjot Shergill, Canadian Mal WC at 97kg; and Jagroop Dhinsa, Burnaby Mountain WC at 125kg.

Burnaby Mountain WC capped off a strong day with the Team Award finishing with 42 points, 15 ahead of second place London-Western who finished with 27.

Finally, the Most Outstanding Wrestler was awarded to Liam Gorton, from Coast RTC, after winning gold at 70kg.
