BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – The team representing Canada at the Senior Pan American Championships has been selected.

The competition will take place from April 18 to 21 at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (CENARD) in the Núñez district of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Canada will be represented by ten women’s freestyle wrestlers, nine men’s freestyle and three Greco-Roman wrestlers.

The women’s team will be led by 2016 Olympic Champion Erica Wiebe who will be competing at 76 kg. It will be Wiebe’s first Pan American Championship since 2013, where she finished third at 72 kg in Panama City.

Diana Weicker had a breakout year in 2018, winning Commonwealth Games gold and World Championship bronze. She’ll be competing in her first Senior Pan American Championships at 53 kg.

Laurence Beauregard is the lone returning medallist on the women’s team. At the 2018 Senior Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru, Beauregard captured silver at 59 kg.

On the men’s side, 2016 Olympian Korey Jarvis and Jordie Steen are returning to the team after taking home bronze medals at last year’s championship.

Alex Moore of Montreal will be another one to watch as he looks to build on his fifth-place finish at the U23 World Championships in November.
