Seniors battle on day three of the 2024 Canadian Wrestling Championships

OTTAWA, ON – The 2024 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior U20, Cadet U17) saw some of its fiercest action on March 16, from TD Place Arena in Ottawa, ON as the senior competition was in full force, with wrestlers all looking for the right to call themselves Canadian champion.

Senior Women

On the Senior women’s side, it was Ontario, who earned top honours with the Provincial Team Award. They finished with a total of 65 points to take the award over second place Alberta. Ontario featured six gold medalists: Madi Parks, 50kg, London Western WC; Serena Di Benedetto, 53kg, Hamilton WC; Mia Friessen, 57kg, Brock WC; Jonelle Clarke, 65kg, London-Western WC; Olivia Di Bacco, 68kg, Brock WC; and Shauna Kuebeck, 76kg, Brock WC.

The women’s Club Team Award went to Brock WC with 27 points. That bested London-Western WC who finished with 24 points in second place.

Thanks to her win in the 68kg weight class, the Most Outstanding Wrestler was awarded to Di Bacco.

Senior Men

As for the Senior men, it was also Ontario that earned the Provincial Team Award over Quebec. Ontario concluded a strong day with seven gold medals from: Treye Trotman, 57kg, London-Western WC; Blayne Helou, 61kg, Hamilton WC; Gregor McNeil, 70kg, Hamilton WC; Adam Thomson, 74kg, London-Western WC; Gagandeep Toor, 92kg, Independent WC; Tejvir Boal, 97kg, Independent WC; and Richard DesChatelets, 125kg, Brock WC.

The Club Team Award went to Montreal-NTC, who topped Brock WC by 12 points 34-22. Montreal-NTC were led by gold medalist Connor Church at 79kg.

With a strong performance during the entire tournament, McNeil, who won the 70kg, was named the men’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
