Thomas Barreiro is one of two Barreiro brothers who will represent Team Canada at the 2018 World Championships in Greco-Roman. Barreiro, from Akwesasne, Quebec, represents the Tristar Wrestling Club and will be making his return to the World Championships after winning the 2018 Canadian Championships in the Greco-Roman 97 kg weight class. Barreiro has represented Canada multiple times on the world stage, including 2017 and 2018 Pan American Championships and the 2017 World Championships. One of Barreiro’s goals is to represent his Mohawk people and the entire indigenous community at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and to encourage young indigenous athletes to pursue sport.
