U17 & U19 men’s freestyle champions crowned in Edmonton

EDMONTON – Champions were crowned, and awards presented on the first day of competition at the 2018 U17 / U19 Wrestling Championships.

The first day saw under 17 and under 19 men compete for national titles.

Action resumes on Saturday with the women’s U17 and U19 freestyle championships, as well as men’s cadet trials.

As part of the awards presentations, Wrestling Canada Lutte presented the cadet awards for 2017. Based on the previous season’s international results, the Cadet Male Athlete of the Year was presented to Brayden Todd from London-Western Wrestling Club. Todd captured a bronze medal at the 2017 Cadet Pan American Championships and finished ninth at the 2017 Cadet World Championships.

Based on ballots submitted during the competition, the Outstanding U17 Men’s Award was presented to Stone Lewis from the Patriotes de St Césaire and the Outstanding U19 Men’s Award was presented to Lachlan McNeil the Team Impact Wrestling Club.

Provincial Team Award U17 Men’s Freestyle: British Columbia

The 2018 U17 / U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships are taking place at the Universiade Pavilion at the University of Alberta, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. U17 and U19 competition includes men’s and women’s freestyle as well as men’s and women’s Greco-Roman wrestling.
