WCL saddened by passing of Don Thompson

GOOD SPIRIT ACRES, SK – Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) was saddened to learn of the passing of Don Thompson, on January 28, 2022 at the age of 79.

Thompson was a member of the WCL Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2004 as a builder. At the national level, he held many roles with WCL as a board member from 1989-2003. That included serving as president from 1995-1999. He also sat on and chaired multiple committees including: the executive, national task force on coaching endowments, awards and hall of fame, and administration and marketing committees.

In addition to his national contributions, he also served in his home province of Saskatchewan. He was a board member with the Saskatchewan Amateur Wresting Association (SAWA) between 1987-1990 and was a member of the 1987 Senior Nationals, 1989 Junior/Espoir Nationals, and 1990 Bantam/Cadet Nationals organizing committees.

Thompson also spent numerous years coaching wrestling at various high schools and clubs from the mid-1960s to early 2000s.
