WCL to participate in Sport Environment Assessment
OTTAWA— Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) will be participating in and supporting a Sport Environment Assessment (Assessment) being conducted by Abuse-Free Sport and the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC). OSIC has engaged an independent assessor, Jennifer Hawkins, Lawyer at Southern Butler Price, to conduct the Assessment.
The overall Assessment objective is to offer proactive, transparent and preventative measures to alleged systemic issues related to the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) in order to cultivate safe, welcoming and inclusive sport environments. WCL sees this Assessment as an opportunity to evaluate the positive changes that have been made within the organization within the last 5 years, and identify where systemic gaps may still remain.
As part of the Assessment, a survey has been prepared by the Independent Assessor to gauge awareness and experiences of participants at the national / international level. More information on the survey can be found here and WCL encourages all national level athletes, coaches, officials, and team support personnel to participate and share feedback, both positive and constructive. Responses from the broader community are welcome as well.
