2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships kick off with cadets
MONTREAL — The 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) got underway on May 28th from Centre Pierre Charbonneau in Montreal. The event not only crowns national champions but also determines members of the Canadian national teams for the three age groups. The first day featured the Cadet competition where more than 150 athletes battled to come out on top of their weight class, nine for the women, 10 for the men.
Cadet women
Ontario and British Columbia battled it out on women’s side, and came away with four gold medals each. Ontario’s were won by: Timi Coles, London-Western WC at 46kg; Lauren MacGregor, K-Bay WC at 53kg; Annie Nieman, Kingston WC at 65kg; and Asees Bains, Independent WC at 73kg. As for B.C., their gold medals were won by: Isabelle Chen, Bhullar WC at 49kg; Gurleen Dhillon, Canadian Mal WC at 57kg; Kai Pare, Coast RTC at 61kg; and Khushi Jhalli, Canadian Mal WC at 69kg.
The team award for the women was won by Coast RTC with 24 points, five better than Canadian Mal WC at 19.
The Most Outstanding Wrestler went to Gurleen Dhillon for her strong performance at 69kg.

Cadet Men
Things were tighter on the men’s side with four different provinces claiming gold medals. Still, it was a tie between Ontario and B.C. who led the way with three each. Ontario’s medals went to: Jude Brion Garrucho, Olympus WC at 45kg; Nikita Ceban, London-Western WC at 55kg; and Jerin Coles, London Western WC at 71kg. As for B.C. they saw medals go to: Gaurav Bahi, Canadian Mal WC at 51kg; Mustafa Fahel, Takedown WA at 60kg; and Uday Billen, Rustom WC at 110kg.
London-Western WC earned the Team Award with 25 points, second was Montreal WC with 17.
The Most Outstanding Wrestler went to Vitalie Clima, Montreal WC, who won the 65kg weight class.

The 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships continue tomorrow when the Junior age group is in action. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Spectators are welcome to attend the event, admission is free.
