Beauregard adds third gold for Canada at 2025 Pan-Am Championships

MONTERREY, MEXICO – Montreal’s Laurence Beauregard added to Canada’s gold medal total on May 10 at the 2025 Senior Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships in Monterrey, Mexico. Beauregard won her medal at 59kg, bringing the Canadian gold total at the event to three. She capped off a day that also saw Canadian wrestlers win a silver in women’s wrestling and two bronze medals in men’s freestyle. The day also saw the Canadian women secure second overall in the team competition.
Beauregard, from the Montreal Wrestling Club, has found success at the senior Pan-Ams in the past. She entered the event with three gold medals (2019, 2022 and 2024) on her resume. The 59kg weight class featured three competitors battling in round robin format. Beauregard earned a 6-3 win in her opening match against American Abigail Nette. In her second match, she faced Alma Valencia of Mexico and won by superiority 12-1. With that, she earned her fourth gold medal at the competition.
“It feels really great to win a fourth Pan-Am Championship,” said Beauregard. “This is always a fun tournament to compete at, there are lots of challenges and it shows what things I need to work on in the next couple of weeks before nationals. I feel like this sets up the rest of my season on a good note and I want to keep it rolling.”
The other women’s medal on the day was a silver and went to Calgary’s Miki Rowbottom at 65kg.
Two other Canadian women were in action with Stoney Creek, Ontario’s Serena Di Benedetto finishing fifth at 53kg and Edmonton’s Vianne Rouleau finishing eighth at 76kg.
In addition to the Canadian women earning second overall, Surrey, British Columbia’s Ana Godinez Gonzalez was also named the winner of the Golden Boot as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
The men’s freestyle competition also got underway with three weight classes in action. Canada picked up a pair of bronze medals from St. Catharines, Ontario’s Garette Saunders at 61kg and Komoka, Ontario’s Adam Thomson at 74kg. Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta’s Tara Goring also competed at 86kg and finished fifth.
The Senior Pan-Ams wrap up on Sunday with the final seven men’s freestyle weight classes.
