Incredible displays by seniors conclude 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships

EDMONTON — The 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) wrapped up on May 31st from the Clare Drake Arena on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton. After two fantastic days of wrestling by the cadet and junior age groups, it was finally time for the seniors to take centre stage. Once again, national titles and a spot on the national team were on the line in 10 weight classes, for both men and women, for the nearly 150 athletes in action.
Senior Women
Ontario came out as the top province on the women’s side, featuring six gold medalists. The list included: Madi Parks, London-Western WC, at 50kg; Serena Di Benedetto, Hamilton Wrestling Club, at 53kg; Hannah Taylor, Brock WC, at 59kg; Jonelle Clarke, London-Western WC, at 65kg; Olivia Di Bacco, Brock WC, at 68kg; and Brianna Fraser, Brock WC, at 76kg.
The Club Team Award for the senior women went to Brock WC.
Karla Godinez Gonzalez was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the women. Godinez Gonzalez won gold in the 57kg weight class, a weight class that featured multiple world and continental medallists.
Senior Men
On the men’s side, it was British Columbia who narrowly edged out Ontario to claim top province honours. British Columbia featured three gold medalists: Peiman Biabani, Burnaby Mountain WC, at 65kg; Nishan Randhawa, Burnaby Mountain WC, at 97kg; and Jorawar Dhinsa, Burnaby Mountain WC, at 125kg.
Ontario’s gold medalists included: Treye Trotman, London-Western WC, at 57kg; Blayne Helou, Hamilton WC, at 61kg; Adam Thomson, London-Western WC, at 74kg; and Yazdan Farokhizad, Brock WC, at 92kg.
Thanks, in part, to their three gold medalists, the Club Team Award for the senior men went to Burnaby Mountain WC.
Jorawar Dhinsa was named the men’s Most Outstanding Wrestler for his performance at 125kg.
