Saskatoon’s Lee finishes 5th at Cadet World Championships
ZAGREB, Croatia – Carson Lee of the Saskatoon Jr Huskies Wrestling Club finished 5th in the 80 kg weight class at the Cadet World Championships.
Lee, 16, defeated Ulrich Manouan of Côte d’Ivoire 3-1 in the repechage to qualify for the bronze medal match. He dropped the bronze medal match 0-11 to Milan Korcsog of Hungary.
Lee’s 5th place finish is a significant improvement from his 21st place finish at the 2017 Cadet World Championships.
On Monday, Lachlan McNeil of Team Impact defeated Tugsjargal Erdenebat of Mongolia 6-6 before losing a close quarterfinal bout to Georgia’s Daviti Abdaladze 1-1. McNeil, finished 11th in the 55 kg weight class.
Nicolae Gandrabura and Dechland Papadopoulos both wrestled in the qualifying rounds today.
Gandrabura, of Montreal YMHA, lost his lone 60 kg match to Mongolia’s Sukhbat Ochir 0-6.
Team Impact’s Papadopoulos, competing at 51 kg, fell to Aman Aman of India 0-10.
Wrestling continues Wednesday with Canadians Makayla Levy, Nyla Burgess and Anika White competing in the qualifying rounds.
