WCL Hall of Fame to welcome Martine Dugrenier in 2026

May 20, 2026

OTTAWA – Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) is proud to announce that Martine Dugrenier will be inducted into the WCL Hall of Fame as the sole member of the Class of 2026. Dugrenier, who will enter in the athlete’s category, will be honoured on May 30 at Centre Pierre Charbonneau in Montreal, Quebec, as part of the 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet).

“Martine’s accomplishments on the international stage helped elevate Canadian wrestling and inspired a generation of athletes across the country,” said Tamara Medwidsky, WCL CEO. “Her dominance, consistency, and passion for the sport have left a lasting impact on wrestling in Canada and around the world. We are thrilled to welcome Martine into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame.”

Dugrenier is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers in Canadian history. A three-time Senior World Champion, Dugrenier captured gold medals in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Prior to her world titles, she earned three consecutive World Championship silver medals from 2005-2007, showcasing remarkable consistency at the highest level of the sport.

Dugrenier also represented Canada at two Olympic Games, competing at 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she placed fifth on both occasions. In addition to her World Championship success, she won three Pan-American Championship gold medals and a gold medal at the 2004 World University Championships.

Domestically, Dugrenier was equally dominant, winning eight Canadian Senior National Championships from 2004-2011 and three CIS National Championships from 2002-2004. Her accomplishments and contributions to the sport were further recognized in 2016 when she was inducted into the United World Wrestling (UWW) Hall of Fame.

The Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame (formerly Canadian Amateur Wrestling) was established in 1975 to recognize outstanding achievement and contribution to Olympic wrestling in or for Canada. There are two categories of membership in the Hall of Fame: the Athlete Category, which formally recognizes the achievements of those wrestlers who have represented Canada at major international competitions or Games; and the Builder Category, which formally recognizes the contribution, leadership and abilities of those individuals who participate in the development of wrestling. To date, 51 athletes have entered the Hall of Fame and 49 builders have been similarly recognized.
