Burgess and Levy named Outstanding Wrestlers on day two of championships
EDMONTON – The second day of competition at the 2018 U17 / U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships took place in Edmonton and featured women’s national under 17 and 19 champions crowned, and the men’s Cadet Team Trials.
The Cadet Team Trials serve as a ranking event for cadet national team nominations. The women’s Team Trials will take place on Sunday.
Based on ballots submitted during the competition, the Outstanding U17 Women’s Award was presented to Nyla Burgess from Team Impact Wrestling Club and the Outstanding U19 Women’s Award was presented to Makayla Levy of the Metro Amateur Wrestling Club.

Club Team Award U17 Women: Edmonton Wrestling Club
Club Team Award U19 Women: Coast Wrestling Club
Provincial Team Award U17 Women: Team Ontario
Provincial Team Award U19 Women: Team British Columbia
As part of the awards presentations, Wrestling Canada Lutte presented the cadet awards for 2017. Based on the previous season’s international results, the Cadet Female Athlete of the Year was presented to Victoria Seal from Coast Wrestling Club. Seal captured a bronze medal at the 2017 Cadet Pan American Championships and finished tenth at the 2017 Cadet World Championships.

The 2018 U17 / U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships are taking place at the Universiade Pavilion at the University of Alberta, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. U17 and U19 competition includes men’s and women’s freestyle as well as men’s and women’s Greco-Roman wrestling.
