Cadet champions crowned at 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships

EDMONTON — The 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) officially began on May 29th from the Clare Drake Arena on the University of Alberta campus. The event not only crowns national champions but also determines members of the Canadian national teams for the three age groups. The first day featured the Cadet competition where 131 athletes battled to come out on top of their weight class, nine for the women, 10 for the men.

Cadet Women

British Columbia athletes were dominant in the Cadet women’s division as the province finished atop the standing. They featured eight gold medalists, including: Mariza Nasu, Coast RTC, at 43kg; Iraabir Sooch, Canadian Mal WC, at 46kg; Kamryn Mason, Coast RTC, at 49kg; Kai Pare, Coast RTC, at 57kg; Natalie Wojciechowski, Coast RTC, at 61kg; Cassidy Pace, Takedown Wrestling Academy, at 65kg; Khushi Jhalli, Canadian Mal WC, at 69kg; and Jolina Healey, Rhino WC, at 73kg.

With their four gold medals, Coast RTC was named the winners of the Club Team Award for the women.

Thanks to her strong performance in the 49kg weight class, Mason was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Cadet Men

The Cadet men’s division saw Ontario come away with the most gold medals and national champions with five. Winners included: Ricky Parra, Matmen WC, at 48kg; Jonrex Casa, Central Toronto WC, at 51kg; Aaharen Piranavan, Team Impact, at 55kg; Nathan Nash, Team Discipline, at 60kg; and Jerin Coles, London-Western WC, at 71kg.

Despite Ontario having more gold medalists, the top province went to British Columbia. British Columbia had four gold medalists: Liam Gorton, Coast RTC, at 65kg; Beau Chartrand, Coast RTC, at 80kg; Harjot Shergill, Canadian Mal WC, at 92kg; and Uday Billen, Rustom WC, at 110kg.

The men’s Club Team Award also went to Coast RTC.

With four wins, all by superiority, Coles was named the men’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. Coles was impressive at 71kg and went through the competition without surrendering a point.

The 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships continue tomorrow when the Junior age group is in action.
