Calgary Hosts 2016 Cadet & Juvenile Canadian Championships

(Ottawa, ON) – With selection to Cadet National Teams on the line, Canada’s best Cadet and Juvenile wrestlers will compete at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium at the University of Calgary, the site for the 2016 ASICS Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships April 15 – 17, 2016.

This Championship is the primary selection event for the Cadet National Teams which will represent Canada at several international events leading up to the 2016 Cadet World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia this September. “The athletes are highly motivated and will be looking to the Olympic team for inspiration this summer,” says Don Ryan, President at Wrestling Canada Lutte. “I would like to thank the 2016 Canadian Championship Organizing Committee in Calgary and the host provincial association, Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association for their collaboration in hosting this important event.”

The 2016 Asics Cadet / Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships are organized by the Dinos Wrestling Club, in collaboration with Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte. The event will feature nine competition mats and will include Men’s Freestyle and Women’s wrestling at the cadet level (15-16 year-olds) as well as Men’s Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women’s wrestling at the juvenile level (17-18 year-olds). The event will also feature women’s Greco-Roman wrestling and Cadet Team Trials.

Competition starts on Friday, April 15th with Cadet and Juvenile Men’s Freestyle, followed by the Men’s Freestyle Cadet Team Trials, Cadet and Juvenile women’s wrestling on Saturday, April 16th. Sunday, April 17th, the final day of competition, will include the Women’s Cadet Team Trials, as well as all Greco-Roman wrestling.
