Canadian men finish second with six medals at Senior Pan Am Championships

BUENOS AIRES – The Canadian men’s team ended the Senior Pan American Championships with six medals to finish second in the team ranking.

Nicholas Rowe, Jevon Balfour and Korey Jarvis captured silver, while Scott Schiller and Alex Moore collected bronze medals, joining Jasmit Phulka who picked up bronze yesterday.

Rowe, of Brock Wrestling Club, finished the 70 kg round robin with a pin on Hugo De Lima Viana De Souza of Brazil in only 17 seconds to secure silver. He also defeated Mitchel Taipe Duanama of Peru and Argentina’s Cristian Karlikowski earlier in the day.

Balfour, Rowe’s Brock teammate, lost the 74 kg finals to 2012 Olympic Champion Jordan Burroughs of USA.

In the 125 kg final, Jarvis, of the Guelph Wrestling Club, lost to American Nicholas Gwiazdowski to claim silver.

Schiller of Windsor, Ont. Picked up bronze in the 61 kg round robin. His lone victory came against Juan Rodriguez Jovel of El Salvador.

At 86 kg, Montreal’s Moore won the bronze medal match with an 11-0 technical superiority victory against Mexico’s Christian Anguiano Flores.
