Canadian Titles on the Line in Fredericton

Ottawa, ON – The 2016 Asics Junior / Senior Canadian Championships will be held in Fredericton, NB this coming weekend, and present a chance for all Canadian wrestlers to battle for the title of Canadian Champion and rankings for National Team programs.

This Championship is the primary selection event for the Junior and Senior National Teams which will represent Canada at several international events including the 2016 Junior World Championships. “While our focus continues to be on Olympic qualification and the Olympic Games this summer, there is an opportunity for our junior and U24 athletes to set the stage for an exciting summer of competition,” says Don Ryan, President at Wrestling Canada Lutte. “Our athletes are highly motivated and ready to compete.”

The 2016 Asics Junior /Senior Canadian Wrestling Championships are organized by the Black Bears Wrestling Club, in collaboration with Lutte New Brunswick Wrestling, as sanctioned by Wrestling Canada Lutte and will take place at University of New Brunswick’s Aitken University Centre. Junior and senior competition will include men’s and women’s freestyle, and men’s greco-roman wrestling. The event starts on Friday, March 18th with the junior freestyle tournament, followed by senior freestyle on Saturday, March 19th. Junior and senior Greco-roman wrestling will take place on Sunday, March 20th. Saturday will also see the induction of a new athlete and builder in the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame.
