Juniors looking to continue success at Pan-Am Championships

August 07, 2018

FORTALEZA, Brazil – Sixteen of Canada’s top junior wrestlers are taking on the Americas at the Pan-American Championships.

The team will be looking to continue last year’s success at the Junior Championships, where the women’s team finished first and the men’s team finished second. The women brought home six medals (two gold, three silver, one bronze), while the men’s team secured four (two gold, two silver).

Dejah Slater will be returning to the team after being named 2017 Junior Wrestler of the Year for her fifth-place finish at the 2017 Junior World Championships. The Team Impact wrestler captured silver at the 2017 Pan-Am Championships.

Hannah Taylor of Brock Wrestling Club and Jayd Davis, Slater’s teammate at Team Impact, also took home silver medals from the 2017 Pan-Am Championships.

On the men’s side, Aly Barghout is the lone returning medallist. Barghout, of Montreal YMHA, was a silver medallist at the 2017 edition of the championships.
