WCL Hall of Famer Dr. Bert Taylor passes away

Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Bert Taylor.

During his collegiate years, Taylor was an athlete at the University of Western Ontario and University of British Columbia. He would go on to become coach at the University of Alberta from 1967-1973. During that time the Golden Bears captured three national titles. He also coached internationally at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Student Games.

Taylor was also an official, officiating at the Olympics, Pan-American Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, World Cup, and World Student Games. In 1983, he was the recipient of the Fédération Internationale des Luttes Amateur (F.I.L.A.) Honourary Life Official Award.

In addition, Taylor spent time as an administrator with multiple wrestling and sport organizations including the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association (now WCL), World Championships, Commonwealth Games Association, F.I.L.A (now United World Wrestling) and others.

For his contributions to the sport of wrestling, Taylor was inducted into the WCL Hall of Fame, as a Builder, in 1991.
