Weicker, Morais and Randhawa to Grapple in the Garden

NEW YORK – Canadian wrestlers Diana Weicker, Linda Morais and Nishan Randhawa are set to wrestle at the Grapple in the Garden on May 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Weicker, a 2018 World Championship bronze medallist and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion will be taking on American rival Sarah Hildebrandt.

Hildebrandt has gotten the better of Weicker, of the Brock Wrestling Club, in their last two matchups. At the 2018 World Championships the two faced-off in the 53 kg semifinal, where Hildebrandt won 10-0. Most recently, the two wrestled at the 2019 Pan American Championships, and Hildebrandt once again won the semifinal matchup, this time by a score of 10-2.

Morais, of Tecumseh, Ont., will wrestle Mallory Velte of the United States. Morais, a 2018 World University Champion finished ninth at the 2018 World Championships. Velte was a 2018 World Championship bronze medallist at 62 kg.

Randhawa will be taking on 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder at 97 kg. Randhawa, of Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club, is a two-time Junior Pan American champion.

The 13-match event will take place on May 6 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

“Grapple at the Garden” supports Beat the Streets, the largest grassroots inner city wrestling program in the United States, serving as both a fundraiser for the organization and to celebrate its athletes as they compete on the biggest stage in the world.
