Wrestling Canada Lutte Announces Women’s World Cup Team

Ottawa, ON – Wrestling Canada Lutte announced its roster for the upcoming Women’s World Cup being held in Tokyo, Japan on March 15 and 16, 2014.

The World Cup, which is wrestled in a dual meet format, brings together the top 8 women’s wrestling teams from the most recent Senior World Championships. Other qualified countries for 2014 include host Japan, Mongolia, USA, China, Ukraine, Russia, and Hungary.

Team Canada includes 2012 Senior World Champion Jessica MacDonald at a new weight class (48 kg), as well as 2013 Junior World silver medallist Braxton Stone-Papadopoulos at 58 kg and 2013 Junior World Champion, Dorothy Yeats at 69 kg. Other Senior World medallists on the team include Justine Bouchard at 63 kg.

“I am excited to travel to Japan where women’s wrestling is held with such respect. This is a dual meet competition with the best eight teams in the World. It is always very exciting to step up program vs. program, and nation vs. nation”, said Leigh Vierling, Women’s National Coach.

Canada placed 7th at last year’s event and is looking to move up in rankings.
