Cadet men team selected and Vanessa Keefe and Aleah Nickel named Outstanding Wrestlers at U17 / U19 Championships

FREDERICTON – Vanessa Keefe and Aleah Nickel were named the U17 and U19 Outstanding Wrestlers of the Tournament on the second day of the U17 / U19 Canadian Championships in Fredericton.

Keefe, of Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I. won gold in the 73 kg U17 weight-class. She won all three of her matches by technical superiority and did not have a singlet point scored against her.

Nickle, who wrestles with the Swift Current Titans, won the 61 kg gold medal match with a 12-0 technical superiority.

“My coaches, my teammates, my parents, they’ve all put in so much time and dedication towards me in the sport, and for me to be able to prove that it wasn’t a waste of their time feels amazing,” said Nickel.

The men’s Cadet Team Trials also took place on Saturday, which saw ten men selected to represent Canada at the Cadet Pan American Games in Morelia, Mexico.
