Day one of Canadian Wrestling Championships kickoff in Tsuut’ina Nation

TSUUT’INA NATION, AB— The 2025 Canadian Wrestling Championships (U19, U17, U15), officially got underway on April 25 from the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex and Jim Starlight Centre in Tsuut’ina Nation, Alberta. Nearly 1000 wrestlers registered for the event, making it one of the largest in recent years. The opening day saw the U19 men, U15 women and U15 men take to the mats looking to be crowned national champions.

U19 Men’s Results

In the U19 men’s division it was British Columbia who came away as the top province. They featured seven gold medalists including: Brock Brown, Khalsa Wrestling Club, at 51kg; Gurshar Johal, Miri Piri WC, at 55kg; Karson Brown, Coast Wrestling Academy, at 60kg; Liam Gorton, Coast Wrestling Academy, at 65kg; Michaeljeet Grewal, Guru Gobind Singh WC, at 92kg; Jagroop Dhinsa, Guru Gobind Singh WC, at 110kg; and Manraj Randhawa, Guru Gobind Singh WC, at 125kg.

With all of their gold medals, it came down to Coast Wrestling Academy and Guru Gobind Singh WC for the Club Team Award. By one point it was Coast that edged out Guru Gobind 31-30.

The Most Outstanding Wrestler went to Oleksii Dymytrov of Dinos Wrestling Club. Dymytrov won gold at 80kg, a weight class that featured 51 total competitors.

U15 Women’s Results

The U15 Women’s division belonged to Ontario who won six gold medals including: Timi Coles, London-Western WC, at 42kg; Sinead Davidson-Wood, Mariposa WC, at 46kg; Leah Handcock, Mariposa WC, at 50kg; Gunsirat Randhawa, Independent WC, at 62kg; Asees Bains, Independent WC, at 70kg; and Anreet Dhindsa, Warriors WC, at 80kg.

Thanks to their performance, Mariposa WC was awarded the Club Team Award.

The Most Outstanding Wrestler was awarded to Jaireet Bahy, from Canadian Mal WC, who captured gold in the 54kg weight class.

U15 Men’s Results

Things were tight among the provinces in the U15 Men’s division. Both British Columbia and Ontario came away with three gold medals a piece. In the end, it was British Columbia who came away as the top province, by four points over Ontario. British Columbia’s gold medalists were: Samarpartap Singh, Coast Wrestling Academy, at 52kg; Harshawn Pandher, Guru Gobind Singh WC, at 68kg; and Manveer Grewal, Guru Gobind Singh WC, at 85kg.

The Club Team Award went to Regina Wolverine WC. They featured one gold medalist, Gunner Treble at 34kg.

The Most Outstanding Wrestler was won by Samarpartap Singh for his strong performance at 52kg.

The competition rolls on tomorrow with the U19 Women, U17 Men and U17 Women all in action. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. local.
