A new Canadian wrestling era with a new name and a new look

March 04, 2014

We are pleased to announce that going forward from this date, the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association will be known as Wrestling Canada Lutte, with the Board of Director’s stamp of approval.

The Association came together over various timeframes during the strategic planning process to determine what the organization should focus on over the next several years to achieve its vision and fulfill its mission, and what it hoped to achieve by 2016. The answer included a commitment to strengthening the wrestling brand and increasing the profile and visibility of the sport to the benefit of all.

President Don Ryan explained that “the rebranding efforts come at the right time, as we are now in a period of rebirth of the sport in the Olympic programme both domestically and internationally.”

The logo is proudly Canadian. Supported by prominent text, strategically placed on top of a line acting as a wrestling mat, or the foundation on which the sport is built. Symbolizing the rebirth of the sport or the rising of a new era, the maple leaf resides above the text and illuminates the silhouettes of the wrestlers in front. With a modern edge to its simplicity, this logo evokes promise for the future, and a level of podium prominence that comes with being a top performer.

“We are extremely excited and proud to share the new visual identity for wrestling in Canada with the sporting community. Epic Design did an amazing job of guiding us through the brand development and bringing our past and future into life visually”, said Tamara Medwidsky, Executive Director.

The new visual identity also includes a new tagline – strength, pride, passion – which contributes to the timeless unity of wrestling. We maintain a nod to the past, but bring the look and feel that connects not only to today’s audience, but remains relevant for years to come.
