Weekend Wrap-up – Canadians storm the podium at Dave Schultz
Seven Canadians found the podium at the Dave Schultz Memorial International at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, USA.
Jessica MacDonald dominated the 50 kg round robin. The Brock wrestler won her three matches without a point scored against to claim gold. Natasha Kramble of Saskatoon finished second to secure silver.
Samantha Stewart of Black Bears Wrestling Club also cruised through her weight-class. Stewart was not scored against in her three matches to claim gold at 53 kg. Jade Parsons fell to Stewart in the final to pick up silver.
At 62 kg, Jessica Brouilette won by technical superiority over Alexandria Liles in the final to claim gold.
Brouilette’s teammate at the Brock Wrestling Club Olivia Di Bacco also won gold. Di Bacco won the 68 kg round robin after defeating Macey Kilty and Randydyll Beltz.
On the men’s side, Steven Takahashi of Western Wrestling took silver after falling to Anatolii Buruian of Moldova in the 57 kg finals. He defeated Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club’s Darthe Capellan in the semifinals 8-7. Capellan went on to finish fourth.
